Spastic Cerebral Palsy is the most common type of the disorder, and makes up almost 80% of all occurrences. In Spastic CP the portion of the brain that affects how the body moves is injured and as a result messages between the brain and muscles are interrupted. When a person has this form of Cerebral Palsy they have very stiff muscles which cause the affected limb or limbs to move in a jerky manner. Spastic CP may cause difficulties when trying to hold an item or when changing positions. There are five different forms of Spastic Cerebral Palsy that affect different parts of the body, which are: Diplegia- This form of Spastic CP affects either both of the legs or both of the arms. Hemiplegia- This form of Spastic CP affects one side of a person’s body. When a person has Hemiplegia they may suffer from tremors to the affected side of the body, learning disabilities, vision impairments, and muscular difficulties with the mouth. Monoplegia- This form of Spastic CP affects only one limb, which is typically the arm. Quadriplegia- This form of Spastic CP affects the entire body, including both the arms and the legs. With this form of Spastic CP some symptoms may include impairment of the facial muscles, seizure disorders, and other medical issues. Triplegia- This form of rare Spastic CP affects three limbs, either two legs and one arm, or two arms and one leg.
